Velho Chico - Teones Almeida Suzano
Velho Chico tá cansado
Ouça isso, meu senhor
Velho Chico tá morrendo
Eu te peço um favor
Proteja este velho
Que muitas vidas salvou.
Velho Chico guerreiro
Aos poucos tá morrendo
Suas águas se indo
Aos poucos estou vendo
Velho Chico se ir
Seguido de veneno.
Veneno que destrói
O rio e o povo
Trazendo tristeza
E imenso desgosto
Quem já foi feliz
Hoje é tristeza no rosto.
Venenos jogados no rio
Pelos projetos de irrigação
Não sabem este povo
Que destroem o Chicão
Que estão acabando com o rio
E toda população
Seus leitos destruídos
Um crime brutal
Um ato desumano
Que só faz mal
Para o velho Chico
De modo geral.
Fico triste se vejo
Uma notícia na TV
O rio tá inavegável
Tá aí pra se ver
O que digo é verdade
Podem todos crer.
Chega de veneno
E de destruição
Vamos acordar
E salvar o sertão
Protegendo o velho Chico
Da garra da maldição.

Old Chico
Old Chico’s all fatigue
listen sir, to that refrain
Old Chico cannot breathe
I ask you, and not in vain:
keep its live guaranteed
‘cause lotta lives sustain.
Old Chico, a combatant!
Every day it keeps fighting
With its legendary waters
But wonder what? It’s dying!
Old Chico day by day
Is by poison fast drying.
This poison is destroying
Our river ‘n’ community
We are closing our eyes
To the whole brutality:
We once had happiness
Now not even salubrity.
This poison is all the trash
Thrown in the river by irrigation
What the rich people forget
Is that this is our damnation:
They are killing the river
But also, our population!
The river springs are ruined,
This is surely a brutal crime
This kind of inhuman action,
Doesn’t even fit a rhyme B
Killing flora, and killing fauna,
And also, Old Chico’s time.
We are all sad 'cause we watch
Every single news on TV
“The river cannot be sailed!”
Yes, we are able to see!
What I tell you now is truth
And no one can disagree.
No more poison, no more death
We cannot bare more destruction
Brazil’s Northeast is so precious,
Our backwoods need protection!
Preserving the bless of nature
Is to avoid the whole Damnation.
