Melissa Benoist is an inspiration in front of and behind the camera

Have you ever watched Supergirl? The protagonist of this series, known as the Superman cousin and called by the name of Kara Danvers, is a very strong person, not only because of her powers, but also for her courage to show vulnerability and sensitivity to real human problems. Melissa Benoist, who plays this amazing character, is definitely considered an excellent actress whose strength in difficult times, like a real life Supergirl, is an inspiration to all women.

Melissa Marie Benoist was born on October 4th, 1988, in Littleton, Colorado, USA. Although many people say she has a standard beauty, I consider her one of the most beautiful actresses ever, whose qualities make her much more remarkable. Melissa has had blond hair for a long time now, because of the role in Supergirl, but her original color is light brown. Personally, I think she’s very tall, about 5 feet 8 inches, and her blue eyes are so expressive that, during a performance, you are easily captivated by the character’s emotions and end up feeling them too.

As I mentioned at the beginning, Melissa is a real inspiration to people, especially women, and this fact says a lot about her personality. I always identified with the characters she played, specifically Marley and Kara, but she started to be my favorite celebrity when I saw an interview she gave a couple of years ago and it really changed my perspective about her as a person. Benoist said in the interview that, when younger, she used to be an outsider kid, who was always alone and made fun of her, but it never stopped her from pursuing her dream of becoming a good actress. She learned how to speak for herself, how to be more and more focused, committed, hardworking, no matter how many limitations she encounters.

In 2019, she opened about being a survivor of domestic violence or IPV (Intimate Partner Violence), relating frequent aggressions caused by her ex-husband. Melissa also said that she hid it from her family and friends for a long time, because she felt ashamed and scared, but the truth needed to be told so she could encourage other women, who are victims of IPV, to seek help and get out of abusive relationships safely.

Melissa Benoist is an actress and a singer, but I would like to add a dancer, based on her performance in the comedy-drama series Glee, in which she appeared in seasons 4 and 5 as Marley Rose. Her first project was a movie called Tennessee, released in 2008, but her career only took off when she got a part in Glee cast, after making some guest appearances on other TV shows. In October 2015, she finally got the lead role in the Supergirl series and her performance received a lot of positive feedback from the public, making the show a huge success that you can watch on Netflix. Melissa’s talent goes beyond the TV screen. In 2018 she starred as the main character in the Broadway show Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. She also showed us her other side, behind the camera, directing an episode of Supergirl.

Besides acting, Melissa’s attitude is really empowering, showing the world that life is not perfect for anyone. Nowadays, she has a family, with a husband who really loves and supports her a lot and their baby, born in 2020. I could talk about this wonderful human being and complete artist forever, but I’ll end by reaffirming how inspiring she is for all who seek whatever the goal is and especially for us, women, sending a message that we deserve to be happy and that respect is something we should already have, but we will continue to fight for it.
